Why fighting in Vietnam was so hard. Most famously associated with the Cu Chi tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), the underground tunnels were an extensive network used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. They stretched for hundreds of kilometers and were not only used for shelter but also for communication, supply routes, living quarters, hospitals, and even weapon storage. Most were dug by hand using simple tools like shovels, hoes, and picks. The soil was often used to creat
